INDIAN SUMMER The goldenrod is yellow, the leaves are turning brown, The trees in apple orchards with fruit are bending down. The breezes lap our waters, still warm from summer's smile; The beaches stretch untrodden, mile after sandy mile. Among the little inlets float boats, now moored at rest. This pause in life is tranquil,  old Cape Cod at its best. By all these lovely tokens, September's finally here With summer's best of weather and autumn's best of cheer.            Adapted from "September" by Helen Hunt Jackson  from Songs of the Treetop and Meadow, pub. 1898 Indian Summer, our unique time!  Until the waters surrounding us cool, we enjoy warm days with a hazy glow of sunshine more oblique...not overhead and hot.  It's a wonderful time.  Rates are 2/3 to 3/4 of in-season prices (or less).  Many stores and restaurants are still open, and the specialty shops are having clearance sales.  Nature beckons with changes every day, from the slightly more subdued brilliance of our fall leaves to the visits of migratory birds on the wing.  It's perfect for all those outdoor activities you've been waiting to try, from riding the Rail Trail its whole length, through thickets, meadows, and moors, to grave rubbing in the 'ancient' cemeteries or painting the Cape in her many moods and costumes.  Come see us!  Rent a week; at our lower rates, you can't afford not to visit Cape Cod!
