Unlike a motel where each room is part of the whole entity, summer homes and cottages are individually and separately owned properties. When we receive a deposit, it is forwarded to the cottage owner in return for holding the reserved property for the agreed dates.
If you need to change to a different available time in the same cottage, this is usually agreeable to the landlord. (If the landlord has been reserving a less popular time, such as off-season, or the very beginning or end of the season, for quite awhile, thus losing the greater opportunity to fill that time period, and you change your reservation to a time in the height of the season, he or she may request partial compensation for the lost income.)
If you need to move to a different cottage, the original landlord will view the change as a cancellation in his rental property. A deposit is required for the new rental; however, the booking fee will not be charged for the new rental.
See "Cancellations" for further information.
